Cycling Event & Fundraiser Covers San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Wine Country

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — GoDaddy, the world’s largest technology provider dedicated to small businesses, has signed as presenting sponsor of the Giro Della Costa Centrale (formerly SLO GranFondo). With an Italian theme and festival, the Giro will start and finish at the 5-Star Trilogy Resort at Monarch Dunes on Sunday, November 9, 2014. Registration is now open at GiroDCC.com.

“It’s great to see GoDaddy’s return to this year’s fundraiser,” said Heather Hellman, Event Director. “GoDaddy is an excellent partner because they bring fun and energy to this premiere cycling event.”

Last year, GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving, an avid cyclist who has a long-time home in San Luis Obispo, rode in the event with many of his colleagues to show support for cancer research. GoDaddy is set to pull together a big team for this November’s ride.

The Giro Della Costa Centrale will benefit the Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital and Alpha. Hearst Cancer Resource Center provides information, classes and counseling for cancer patients, survivors and their families in San Luis Obispo County. Alpha provides support, practical assistance during pregnancy through a child’s first year, and education on pregnancy and early parenting throughout San Luis Obispo County.

The California Coastal GranFondo cycling event will feature four new routes, including a women’s-only ride, which will take athletes deep into the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara wine country, past the Pacific Ocean and area ranches and farms. Ride lengths include:

SLO GranFondo: 100-miles with 5,000 ft. elevation gain. Route features many roads used in the Tour of California.

MedioFondo: 61-miles with rolling hills and fantastic views, without the sufferfest.

FemmeFondo: 50-miles and women-only. Follow female Pros who are taking the cycling industry by storm.

PicoloFondo: 25-miles and a great ride to enjoy the morning with time to relax at Festivale Italiano.

Athletes receive an Inaugural t-shirt, on-site and course bike mechanics, Aid Stations with FLUID sports drink, CLIF Shot gels, plenty of snacks and a hot Italian lunch at the finish with registration. Festivale Italiano will feature cycling vendors, local beer and wines and Classic Italian music.

The Races

Giro Della Costa Centrale
Giro Della Costa Centrale

This year is going to be amazing!

The new Giro Della Costa Centrale is here!! Building upon the history and success of the SLO GranFondo, the Giro Della Costa Centrale (Tour of the Central Coast) has all new routes, beautiful Central Coast scenery, challenging climbs, a new classic bike rally and everything Italian from food, music and wine at the Festivale Italiano at the 5-Star Trilogy Resort at Monarch Dunes. The rides benefit Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital Medical Center and Alpha.

The rides celebrate cycling at its best. The new SLO GranFondo (100 miles) traces many of the roads used on the Amgen Tour, traveling through San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, into the Santa Ynez Valley and back to the Nipomo Mesa. This ride sees 4000 feet of climbing, great vistas and a challenge to all.

The MedioFondo (61 miles) provides a great challenge without the “suffer fest.” It’s a great ride for both men and women who like great scenery, a great workout and, frankly just love being in the saddle.

The FemmeFondo (50 miles) is a women-only ride, a first for this event. We’ll have professionals riding all out, along with participants thrilling chick fest fashion – these women will kick it! Bella!

The PiccoloFondo (25 miles) is a substantial ride, great for beginners to intermediate riders. A pleasant route for a Sunday ride with plenty of time to enjoy Festivale Italiano and, maybe, even a trip to the Trilogy Resort Spa.

LA DOLCE VITA! This phrase epitomizes the Central Coast of California! Our Festivale Italiano at Trilogy Resort at Monarch Dunes will show off the best of this area and its Italian heritage. We’ll have local Italian food, Italian wine, local craft beers, Italian music and a whole lot more!
