Christian Vande Velde (born May 22, 1976 in Lemont, Illinois, U.S.) is an American professional road racing cyclist and two-time Olympian who currently rides for Garmin-Sharp. The son of United States Bicycling Hall of Fame inductee John Vande Velde, Christian became professional in 1998 for US Postal after many successful years on the track where he won 5 national championships and the World Cup overall in the Individual Pursuit in 1997. He twice rode on the Tour de France team that brought Lance Armstrong to victory in 1999 and 2001. Christian moved to Liberty Seguros in 2004 and switched to Team CSC in 2005 where he stayed through 2007. He worked as a domestique for several different leaders from Roberto Heras to Ivan Basso and finally Carlos Sastre. In 2008, Christian made the transition from super domestique to team leader, finishing the season as one of the world’s top cycling talents. As part of the winning team time trial squad at the Giro d’Italia, Christian became only the second American ever to don the coveted maglia rosa. He rode heroically throughout the 2008 Tour de France, finishing fourth overall. The team’s biggest win in 2008 came when Christian took home the yellow jersey from the Tour of Missouri. He is Team Garmin-Sharp’s on-the-road captain and will lead the team in many future victories.

Peter Stetina

Peter Stetina recently finished his first Tour de France in 35th place while helping Tejay VanGarderen to 5th place overall. He was also involved helping Dan Martin win Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2013 and Ryder Hesjedal win Giro d’Italia in 2012. He is a 2x u23 national time trial champion (2008, 2009). His Dad and Uncle are former racers: Dale Stetina, and Wayne Stetina, both of whom were important names in the early era of American Road racing.

This year is going to be amazing!

The new Giro Della Costa Centrale is here!! Building upon the history and success of the SLO GranFondo, the Giro Della Costa Centrale (Tour of the Central Coast) has all new routes, beautiful Central Coast scenery, challenging climbs, a new classic bike rally and everything Italian from food, music and wine at the Festivale Italiano at the 5-Star Trilogy Resort at Monarch Dunes. The rides benefit Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital Medical Center and Alpha.

The rides celebrate cycling at its best. This ride sees 4000 feet of climbing, great vistas and a challenge to all.

The MedioFondo (61 miles) provides a great challenge without the “suffer fest.” It’s a great ride for both men and women who like great scenery, a great workout and, frankly just love being in the saddle.

The FemmeFondo (50 miles) is a women-only ride, a first for this event. We’ll have professionals riding all out, along with participants thrilling chick fest fashion – these women will kick it! Bella!

The PiccoloFondo (25 miles) is a substantial ride, great for beginners to intermediate riders. A pleasant route for a Sunday ride with plenty of time to enjoy Festivale Italiano and, maybe, even a trip to the Trilogy Resort Spa.

LA DOLCE VITA! This phrase epitomizes the Central Coast of California! Our Festivale Italiano at Trilogy Resort at Monarch Dunes will show off the best of this area and its Italian heritage. We’ll have local Italian food, Italian wine, local craft beers, Italian music and a whole lot more!
